A Maui wedding or vow renewal in Makena (especially Secret Cove) …

takes you to a landscape covered with kiawe trees, lava flows, sparkling coves and golden beaches of finely textured sand. Hidden in natural growth along both sides of Makena Alanui road, are ancient walls and heiaus. Heiaus were altars used by early Hawaiians as places of sacrifice (in the early days, human sacrifice) and as repositories for the remains of ancient rulers. It was thought, apparently, that the bones of a king could be stolen and the "mana," or essence of a ruler's power misused. Heiaus were sometimes abandoned in favor of caves and other, less accessible, burial sites.
The Makena beaches are beautiful locations for your Maui wedding or vow renewal. However, they can be popular for weddings. Check with Pacific Island Weddings for ideas on how to keep your special event as secluded and unique as possible.

Wailea Beach, not pictured, fronts the Grand Wailea and Four Seasons resorts. The north (Grand Wailea) side and the southern end (in fronting Four Seasons) work best for weddings or vow renewals.
